Why won’t you two just play nice?
I recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate Edition on my iMac. While it is quite nice and fairly “pretty” compared to its predecessor, I’m having one problem that I just cannot seem to solve. The sound doesn’t work quite right.
It’s not just me that seems to have that problem either, many Mac users are finding the sound seems fairly choppy. The difference is, I’ve read the solution and it doesn’t work for me as it seems to for others. I was quite happy when MacApper posted the exact solution I had tried as it showed I was doing it right; I was less happy as it still wasn’t working for me.
I decided to remove Vista and re-install it. I’ve had a slight side-affect, however. The boot-time to start up Mac OS X went up to about a minute - my PowerBook booted faster. I’m assuming something went slightly wrong during the Boot Camp process and since it’s still a beta program I will forgive it. Fortunately for me, this time I was not a complete idiot. I had backed up everything I had done since I started using my iMac and simply formatted it and moved everything back on. Granted, that’s half an hour of my life I could have been using my iMac rather than watching updates and installs but I’m quite glad to say I have it up and running once more.
Since I’m not desperate for any form of Windows at this minute, I’ve decided to wait until a newer version of Boot Camp is released; one touting Vista support, perhaps.
Have you had any experiences with Vista on a Mac or any problems Boot Camp related?

I don’t own any Intel Macs I can mess around with at the moment, so no. Although… what’s wrong with the 1 minute bootup? Is it really that much of a problem? If it is, just leave it on and restart every three weeks or so like I do. Works fine here… although my bootup times are normal.

Honestly, zzap, it wouldn’t be a problem if I wasn’t used to my iMac booting in about 15 seconds. =P
I would leave my computer on, however I live in a house with people who are incredibly energy conscience. Basically, no wasting of electricity. It’s always an option though, I guess. In sleep mode this uses such a low amount.

Yeah. A few months back I worked out it costs $5.53 for my PC to be on for a month; which isn’t *too* bad. Plus you have to think about how much it would cost booting up and down a few times a day. And how often you’ll need to replace your hardware due to temperature contractions, etc.
Plus when I’m not using it it usually is downloading something, or doing some quantum physics or climate prediction.
