Happy New Year!
Ahh, another year passes. I would just like to wish everyone a Happy New Year with the hopes of a safe, happy and prosperous 2007! I’m not really one for resolutions, I tried once but it went out the window on January 2nd, so I haven’t bothered since. However, I’ve been inspired by Glenn Wolsey to set myself some goals for the year ahead!
To quote what I said on his blog:
In no particular order,
1. Decide between black and white and buy a workstation around that (thanks for the vote, Glenn!).
2. Start going to the gym, with a Nike + iPod.
3. Stop spending so much on things I don’t really need (does not include number 1).
4. Work on my concentration skills and stop procrastinating.
I would like to expand on a few of these, however. Leaving number one for a minute, I really would like to start going to the gym. I’ve said it over and over again and since I began the last term at University I’ve been living a very short walk from one. I just lack the motivation to get me up and moving to the gym, which is a shame. I’m just a bit nervous of being watched, as its fairly off-putting no matter what I’m doing.
Number three speaks for itself! I spend way too much money on rubbish that I don’t need. Alcohol, junk food, video games I never play; I do like buying things. I really need to cut back on spending my money as it isn’t going to last that long, being a student.
Number four ties in with what I mentioned earlier about lack of motivation. I would love to start learning different programming languages such as Objective-C, I even own a few books on the subject but when it comes down to it, I don’t have the motivation and concentration to start. I’m sure I’d be fine once I got going, I tend to pick things up fairly quickly, it’s just starting. I put other things first and browse the web or read my emails. I really do need more focus.
Now back to number one. With only nine days until Macworld San Francisco, I can start putting that in to motion. I’m going to be buying myself a new desktop Mac, probably the iMac 24″, to begin my new workstation. I say “buying myself”, it will actually be a late Christmas present from my mother, so many thanks to her. Hopefully, I’ll be able to put number four in to practise and really start doing some pretty cool things along with picking up my photography again. I’ll probably be going for the white look for it, too. My rooms are always very brown, along with my clothing, as I really do like it for some reason. I like it clean, tonal and I guess it seems different to what the majority of people usually have (purely judging my friends and relatives). Hopefully the white will keep me semi in theme with my clean approach to my room and workspace.
Here’s looking forward to 2007, I hope you have a great one!

This is a huge difference to your plans, but have you considered buying a low end Mac Pro instead of the iMac? It would last much longer due to it’s expandability.

I have been very tempted (due to your blog, again), however I’d have to get an Apple cinema display and it would cost a fair bit more. In the long run, however, I’m sure it would be a lot cheaper. Of course, if I do buy a Mac Pro I’ll have to buy a MacBook Pro to match! Hehe.
We’ll see come Macworld, I guess. I hope new desktops are released.

“I’m just a bit nervous of being watched, as its fairly off-putting no matter what I’m doing.” — I am exactly the same with you about the being-watched thing; and it is sometimes hard to overcome. However, a few weeks ago I joined a small gym, and each time you go you see some of the same people; and it isn’t so bad when you see the same people over and over again. Give it a try; you’ll get used to it.
Have a very happy New Year, Steffan!

zzap:
Very much appreciated! I hope I can get myself going to join the gym, the one close to me gives a month free with a personal trainer. I think I may have to buy myself an iPod Nano and the Nike + Sports Kit, though, so I can blank out the other people around me. Hehe.
Happy New Year to you, zzap! Hope you have a great one.

We both know you won’t do number 2. I really should do number 4 but I can’t see it happening; I’m too good at procrastinating! :p
Happy New Year!
Love you. xxxxxxx

Hey amigo
So - number 2 eh?
well - I have a possible solution!
As you know during the hols me, Kev n Jim-lad go down the Gym most days so if you want we can force you along?
I didn’t want to start for the same reasons, but no-one really cares and everyone is there for pretty much the same reason.
If you like my idea let me know and we’ll drag you with us during Easter hols
Bye for now amigo,
Will
